Presented is a fantastic quality antique bronze statue of Cupid, dating to circa 1850-1900. The bronze is likely of French origin, but as it is unsigned we aren't certain. The bronze depicts a classical winged Cupid figure in the act of stringing his bow, with his quiver at his back. The bronze is very well done, with separately cast and assembled limbs, base and body allowing it all to be very detailed and well crafted, with hand chased and engraved texturing and detail work for the hair, feathers, bark, etc. The patina of the bronze is a rich chocolate brown, very stately and appealing. On the underside, the old hand cut nuts and bolts holding the figure to the naturalistic base are visible, exactly as you like to see on an old piece.

The bronze is in great overall condition. There is a minor separation along the seam of one arm, where it was originally joined to the body of the piece at the time of construction. The patina is in great shape. No breaks or repairs.

The bronze measures about 9 1/2 x 7 ½ inches and is about 13 ¼ inches tall.

The bronze weighs 20.6 pounds or 9.3 kilograms. -jm
