Impressive c1920s Tuttle Sterling Silver Hand Hammered Large Caster Muffineer
Regular price
$565.00
Presented is a superb antique or vintage American sterling silver caster or muffineer. This piece was made by Tuttle and dates to circa 1910-1930. The shaker is an impressive large size, made in a lighthouse type form. This is a finely handwrought piece, with the marks of hand hammering visible in the finish throughout, which catches the light dazzlingly. Hand chased around the base, upper body, and lid is a continuous band of simplified swag decoration. The lid is pierced with a generous amount of large size holes, all connected with decorative engraving. The front of the shaker has a monogram of F in Gothic lettering, very finely engraved and well done. This is really a very large size and impressive shaker, and would be great for use with cinnamon sugar, caster/powder sugar, or whatever else you like.
This piece is hallmarked on the underside with the oldest iteration of the Tuttle maker's mark, which looks slightly doublestruck. The caster is also stamped sterling, a retail mark for William Wise & Son, (a New York retailer) and the number 45.
This piece is in excellent condition. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The caster measures about 6 5/8 inches tall. This piece weighs 228 grams or 8.04 regular ounces. -jm
