Presented is a stunning antique German 800 purity silver glass lined centerpiece bowl, dating to the late 1800s or early 1900s. The silver portion is very well made, with elegant openwork decoration on the lower body, bold acanthus leaf and laurel-draped scrolls around the sides, and four scroll form feet. The bowl has a handle at either end, done in a handsome neo-classical style. The glass liner is all original and conforms to the shape of the bowl but is removable for ease of cleaning. A very impressive piece with real presence.
The underside of the piece is stamped with the German crescent moon and crown with 800 for the purity of the silver, an Austrian import mark, and a maker's mark likely for Koch & Bergfeld.
This piece is in excellent condition. The glass has no chips, no cracks, no cloudiness, no damage of any sort. The silver has no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The bowl measures about 17 inches from handle to handle, 8 inches wide, and stands about 6 inches tall at the highest point.
The total weight for the centerpiece, including the glass, is 1432 grams or 3.16 pounds. The weight of just the silver portion is 546 grams or 19.3 regular ounces. -jm
