Presented is a fabulous antique American sterling silver covered serving dish. This piece dates to the late 1800s or early 1900s and was retailed by Bigelow, Kennard & Co, who possibly also made the piece. The dish is made in a classic design featuring beautifully hand chased floral and foliate scrollwork throughout its surface. The handles at the sides and on the lid are separately cast and applied, done in a very detailed branch form. The dish rests on four bun form feet. Curiously, the dish has a removable interior rim that we don't really understand the purpose of, but rest assured it is also sterling silver. The dish is quite a large size and would make a very practical as well as eye-catching addition to any table setting.
The dish is stamped sterling on the underside, as well as the mark for Bigelow, Kennard & Co, Boston.
The dish measures about 12 1/2 x 10 1/4 x 6 1/4 inches, LxWxH (including the lid).
This piece weighs 1174 grams or 41.4 regular ounces.
