Presented is a great quality, sterling silver covered vegetable dish of heavy weight made by Tiffany & Co during the first half of the 1900s. This piece doubles as a pair of matching, open serving dishes when the lid is flipped over. Originally, the lid had a removable finial or handle, since the handle is no longer with the piece, this piece might be better suited for using as a pair of matching servers. Both dishes have a matching, detailed acanthus leaf border along the rim.
The underside is marked Tiffany & Co, sterling and bears the M mark used between 1907 and 1947.
This piece is in excellent overall condition. The bottom portion has a very slight dent to one side and the top portion or lid has a very small ding, both flaws are hardly noticeable. The handle to the top is missing, as already mentioned. It is certainly possible to find or adapt a new handle. There are no other dents, no breaks, no splits, no monograms, no monogram removals and no repairs.
The piece measures 11 1/4 by 8 7/8 inches, is 3 1/8 inches tall and weighs 1292 grams or 45.6 ounces.
As two separate dishes, the dimensions are 11 1/4 by 8 7/8 inches and 1 5/8 inches tall as well as 7 3/4 by 10 1/8 inches and 1 1/2 inches tall.
