Heavy Portuguese Silver Pierced Swing Handle Basket

Presented is a great quality and very well made Portuguese silver swing handle basket. The basket has wonderful pierced work on the sides. The rim and the handle are beautifully decorated with berries, vines, and leaves. The bottom of the basket has beautiful machine turnings. The basket is very heavy for an open work piece.
The basket is hallmarked in several locations. There are no shortage of hallmarks on this piece. The basket is hallmarked on the sides at two different locations and on each of the four nuts underneath with the bird mark for Portuguese 833 purity silver and a maker’s mark. The bird mark is in an octagonal shaped punch for the city of Oporto. These marks were used after 1938. The handle is also marked with the maker's mark.
The condition is excellent, really superb. The swing handle moves easily back and forth and is tight enough that it remains in place, so that it can be set vertically. There are no dents, no dings, no splits, no monograms, no monogram removals, no breaks, and no repairs.
The basket measures 6 5/8 inches by 9 3/4 inches and is 8 inches tall when the handle is fully raised.
The weight is 695 grams or 24.4 ounces.
