Presented is an elegant sterling silver baby rattle by Gorham in 1890. This piece has a wooden handle and a ribbed circular rattle that spins. The spinner has small pieces inside that move around and make noise. There are holes along the spinner, we are not sure why, but probably for the sound to be released easier. The piece has a name monogrammed on the side, “Harold”.
This piece is marked on the silver part of the handle with sterling along with the maker's mark for Gorham. There is also a year mark of a rooster representing the year 1890. The rooster can be seen sideways in the third photo.
The rattle is in great condition, especially considering age and material. The spinner makes a good noise and rotates with ease. The wooden handle is a bit loose but is not as risk of coming off. There is some surface wear to the piece but there are no breaks and no repairs.
