Presented is a handsome Dominick & Haff sterling silver and glass double inkwell stand. The stand has a decorative pierced edge and stands on four claw and ball feet. The actual supportive surface of the stand is a thick plate of clear, heavy glass, set into the silver frame. The square inkwells are also made from thick, clear glass, with sterling silver lids. The inkwells rest in a little fence of the same decorative pierced work as the rim of the stand.
This piece is in great overall condition. The two glass inkwells are in fine shape, with some small fleabite chips that are to be expected on a vintage piece such as this. The small chips can be smoothed down. The plaques on the lids are probably covering monograms, but the silver is quite thick and could easily take a monogram of your choice. The glass plate set in the stand has a minor chip to the front edge, but this is not visible unless the glass is pulled out from the silver. The silver has no splits, no breaks, and no repairs.
The silver is stamped sterling, with the maker's mark for Dominick & Haff, as well as the retail mark for Marcus & Co New York. There is also a stamp of 220, probably a product number, and 10 inches for the length of the piece.
The total weight for the piece is 1718 grams. This includes the inkwells themselves and the glass. -jm
