Presented is a wonderful antique American silverplate fish serving set, dating to around the 1850s-1860s. The handles are done in an elegant classically inspired pattern with shell and acanthus decoration, while the blade of the knife and the body of the fork are both finely hand engraved with floral and foliate decoration on both sides.
This set is in great overall condition. There is a little bit of a split to the seam where the halves of the handles are joined at the very tip of the handle, on both pieces, but this is very hard to notice without carefully inspecting the pieces and looking at the ends of the handles dead on. The handles are joined tight to the bodies with no wiggle. No dents, monograms, or monogram removals.
The knife is about 11 1/2 inches long. The fork is about 10 1/8 inches long.
The combined weight for the set is 288 grams or 10.2 regular ounces. -jm
