Presented is a fantastic set of antique French pewter measuring cups, dating to the mid to late 1800s. The cups are made in a handsome tankard form, with bold squared off handles. This set is a marriage, with cups from a variety of makers, but the form matches perfectly and the set spans a pretty standard range of capacities. The capacities are: Liter, demi-liter, double deciliter, deciliter, demi-deciliter, double centiliter, and centiliter. All the cups are marked on the underside: R.G. for the liter; J.R. for the demi-liter and deciliter; Chaventre A Paris for the double deciliter; AL for the demi-deciliter; and FB AP for the double centiliter. Each cup also has tiny stamps of various individual letters of the alphabet around the top of the rim, except the centiliter. Some have ten to twenty of these stamps, some have only one or two, so they likely aren't date letters, but we don't know what they are.
This set is in excellent overall condition for the most part. Great patina to the pewter. The double centiliter looks a fair bit older than the others based on the style of the mark and also how much wear it has seen, the bottom is a little out of round and the handle has a slant. The measures range in height from 7 1/4 inches to 1 5/8 inches. The total weight for the set is 2.56 kilograms or 5.6 pounds. -jm
