Presented is a great lot of 5 American coin silver spoons, all done in the Sheaf of Wheat pattern. The spoons were made by a variety of makers as listed below.
As the spoons appear in the first photograph, the first spoon, which is the largest of the group, has a maker’s mark of J. J. Low for John J. Low of Boston and Salem, Massachusetts circa 1830s. Low was born in 1800 and died in 1876.
The second spoon has a maker’s mark of C&N. The handle is monogrammed with MB.
The third spoon has a maker’s mark of A. Hartshorn. This spoon is monogrammed with SG on the handle.
The fourth spoon has no maker’s mark. It is engraved with SH on the handle. The fifth spoon has no maker's mark and no monograms.
This group has some flaws, but overall the lot is in great shape. The fifth spoon has a monogram removal on the handle below the Sheaf of Wheat design. The fourth spoon has numerous dents to the bowl. The other spoons are in excellent condition with only minor surface wear and some small dents and dings here and there. There are no breaks and no repairs.
The spoons are between 4 7/8 inches and 7 1/8 inches long.
The combined weight of the lot is 77 grams or 2.7 ounces. -jm
