GREAT 1800s German Hand Painted Glass & Pewter Tankard
Regular price
$299.00
Presented is a wonderful quality cut glass tankard with a pewter lid. The glass has panel cuts with a nice enamel scene decoration on the front. The decoration appears to be all hand painted. I do not believe it is a transfer, although it is hard to tell. Let the photographs be your guide. The scene depicts a boy with a kitten on his shoulder. He looks as if he is about to be sick and is leaning against a keg with his tankard of beer hanging down at his side. The writing below the scene reads, “O Jerum.” The pewter lid is covered with ornate shells, flowers, scrolls, and leaves.
The tankard was made in Germany in the last quarter of the 1800s.
The tankard is in very good condition. There are a few small flakes to the glass on the bottom of the tankard, but it is still perfectly useable. The hinged lid is strong. There are no cracks, no dents, no splits, no breaks, and no repairs.
We estimate the capacity of the tankard to be 1 pint or 1/2 liter.
The tankard measures 3 1/2 inches in diameter at the base and 8 1/2 inches tall.
