Presented is a beautiful Gorham sterling silver sugar bowl and creamer set, dated 1962. This set is made in the “Grand” variant of the ever-popular Chantilly pattern, lavishly hand chased with very detailed floral and foliate scrollwork decoration and fluting around the sides. The decoration surrounds a cartouche on both sides of each piece, none of which have ever been monogrammed. The creamer has a gold wash interior, and the liquid capacity is 14 ounces, or 7/8 of a pint. The pieces are very well made, with a great feeling of weight and quality in the hand, exactly as expected from a name like Gorham. Neither piece looks like it has ever been used.
This set is in excellent condition. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
Both pieces are stamped with the Gorham maker's mark as well as sterling, the design/pattern number 599, the date mark for the year 1962, and “Hand Chased.” The creamer is also marked with the capacity, 7/8 of a pint.
The creamer measures about 6 3/8 inches tall. The sugar bowl measures about 4 1/2 inches tall (handle height)/3 1/4 inches tall (rim height) and measures about 7 1/2 inches across the handles.
The total weight for the set is 687 grams or 24.2 regular ounces. -jm
