Gorgeous Victorian 14k Gold Cobalt Guilloche Enamel Pearl Locket Pin / Brooch
Presented is a stunning Victorian 14 karat gold, enamel and seed pearl locket pin or brooch. This piece dates to around the 1840s-1870s and is possibly of American make, though we aren't sure. The face of the pin is done in beautiful cobalt blue guilloche enamel, translucent to let the machine turned decoration of the gold beneath show through. Applied on top of the enamel is a lovely design of various flowers and foliage, decorated with real seed pearls. The locket is hinged at the top (12 o'clock position) and opens to reveal a glass bezel, so it could be set with a photo, lock of hair, etc. The pin has an old C style clasp in the back. This piece is in great condition. The enamel is in great shape, with no chips and no losses. The locket snaps shut nicely. The glass is loose in the bezel, so that it pushes back against the interior unless there is something in the
locket, but it will not come out of the bezel. There is a little hole on the back of the locket, possibly so a lapel watch or dangle could be added, but this is not visible from the front.
This piece is not stamped or hallmarked, but we have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be at least 14 karat gold. The pin measures about 1 1/2 by 1 1/8 inches.
This piece weighs 21 grams.
