Gilt Icon Figurine In Silver Mica Box St Anthony Of Padua
Regular price
$1,368.00
Presented is a wonderful old silver icon box with a clear mica window pane. Inside the box is a nicely realized gilt silver figurine of a saint. A kind eBay member has told us that this is St. Anthony of Padua. He holds the Christ Child in his left arm and lilies in the other. The box is beautifully engraved on the back with three stars over a cross, the letters MA, and three arrows. We believe this item possibly dates to medieval Europe. From the style of engravings on the back, and the mica window pane, we strongly believe this is a very old item. Certainly from the 1700s or earlier.
The condition is great overall. The figurine itself is in great shape. Some of the gilding is worn on the back, but this is minor. The mica window is in goodshape. The cloudiness on the edges and the line in the middle are all typical of mica.
The box measures about 2 5/8 inches tall.
