Presented is a heavy weight, sterling silver cheese scoop made by Frank W. Smith and retailed by Bigelow, Kennard & Co. This piece is in the Newport Shell a.k.a. Puritan pattern, which was patented in 1910. This scoop is very thick and heavy for its size. The handle is decorated with a beaded border and crisp shell accent at the tip.
The back is marked 925/1000 for sterling and Bigelow, Kennard & Co. The Frank Smith company mark has been left off, probably at the retailer's request.
This piece is in excellent condition. There are no dents, no breaks, no splits, no monograms, no monogram removals and no repairs.
The scoop measures 7 1/2 inches long and weighs 93 grams or 3.3 ounces.
