Presented is a gorgeous antique Victorian porcelain covered sauce or gravy tureen with a tray made by Fischer & Mieg of Pirkenhammer, Bohemia. The sauce tureen and tray, which is of the highest quality, are beautifully hand painted and gilded with a colorful design of daffodils and other flowers on a gray green background. This decoration is very rich and somewhat unusual in the background color. The wavy edge rims are elegantly gilded. This piece was probably made in the mid to late 1800s or possibly early 1900s.
The lid, the tureen, and the tray are all marked with a blue beehive mark. This piece came to us with a large group of other items done in an identical pattern with a similar blue mark as well as a maker’s mark for Fischer & Mieg. This piece is undoubtedly by the same maker.
The condition is excellent. There is some light wear on the painted surface of the tray where the foot rim of the tureen has rest against it, but this is minor. There are no cracks, no chips, no crazing, no breaks, and no repairs.
The piece measures 8 1/2 inches by 6 3/8 inches and is 5 inches tall. Weight: 1 lb 15 oz (875 grams)
