Fine set 12 French Silver MOP Handle Knives w/ Original Box

Presented is a fabulous set of 12 silver and mother-of-pearl handled knives,
with original display/storage box. These knives date to around the 1870s and
were made in France. The handles are made from beautiful mother-of-pearl, with
silver bolsters and end caps. The handles also have an inset silver plaque, with
a monogram of VR. This monogram is repeated on the lid of the box. The blades of
the knives are carbon steel, and are razor sharp.

The knives are in great overall condition. One knife has a repair to the
mother-of-pearl handle, where a chip was glued back in. The handle is still
sturdy and solid. There are no other repairs, no splits, no dents, and no
monogram removals. The carbon steel blades are sharp and in great shape. Please
note that it is natural for carbon steel to darken with age and use. Carbon
steel will rust, so it's best to clean and dry them by hand after use. Not
dishwasher safe. The box has done a great job protecting the knives from the
effects of time. The box has some wear to the exterior and interior as well as a
crack along the lid, but closes and latches nicely.

The blades are marked 'Depose' which is French for registered or copyright.
The bolsters and caps are not stamped, but we have tested them with nitric acid
and guarantee them to be at least sterling silver, possibly higher as was typical of French silver.

Each knife is about 7 5/8 inches long.
