Regular price
$178.00
Presented is an excellent quality pair of antique Mason's ironstone china bowls, dating to circa 1890-1910. These bowls are made in the highly sought after Flying Bird pattern, which is a vibrant and colorful Chinoiserie pattern depicting a long tailed bird in flight surrounded by stunning flowers and foliage. The palette is a very eye-catching array of blues, greens, orange, purple and pink shades, with fine gold gilt detailing. This pattern was originally designed by Davenport circa 1813, but would later be produced by Mason's Ironstone as well as other fine English makers. These are good size bowls, suitable for a wide variety of serving purposes or simply for display, however you like. We have many additional pieces in this pattern from the same estate including some particularly rare examples, which you can find by searching “Flying Bird” in our store.
These bowls are in great overall condition. One bowl has more noticeable crazing to the glaze and a small chip to the underside of the rim. The other also has some crazing, but less noticeable, and both bowls ring well when tapped. There are some minor surface abrasions and small spots of wear/loss to the paint, but nothing of any significance. There are no other chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs.
Each bowl is stamped on the reverse with the Mason's Patent Ironstone China mark.
Each bowl measures about 9 3/4 inches in diameter and stands about 3 1/2 inches tall at the rim. -jm
