Presented is a fine old English Sheffield fused plate pedestal bowl or double handle compote. This piece dates to circa 1810-1820. The dish is very well made, with richly detailed hand chased and engraved decoration. The rim features classical foliate scrollwork in a very high relief, while the inner band of decoration has a design of birds, fruit and flowers. The center of the dish is nicely engraved with scrolls and floral decoration surrounding an empty space where a monogram or inscription could be engraved.
This piece is in great overall condition. The silver plating is in great shape. The design in the center is a little worn, but there is no significant bleed through and there has never been a monogram. No breaks and no repairs.
The dish measures about 17 1/4 inches from handle to handle or about 12 3/4 inches in diameter without the handles, and stands about 4 3/8 inches tall.
This piece weighs 1615 grams or 57 regular ounces. . -jm
