Presented is a wonderful 70 piece sterling silver flatware set by Gorham. This set is made in the popular Chantilly pattern, which began production in 1895. This pattern features classical decoration in the form of scrollwork and shell designs around the handles. This set provides full service for 8, with seven piece place settings, with a double set of teaspoons and five serving pieces. The knives have sterling handles with stainless blades in the modern shape.
We are including with the set a brand new fitted storage chest, as seen in the photos. The chest is wood in a rich dark walnut finish, with a velvet lined interior.
Each non-knife piece is stamped with the Gorham maker's mark as well as sterling, some with the old 'pat. 1895' date as well. The knives are marked Gorham, sterling handle, and stainless blade.
This set is in great overall condition. The details of the pattern are nice and crisp. One of the butter spreaders has some nicks to it, like it has met with the garbage disposal at some point in the past. There are no other damages, no splits, no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The total weight for the set, not including the knives due to their stainless steel blades, is 2094 grams or 73.9 regular ounces. -jm
