Presented is a fabulous German ruby cut to clear glass tankard, with pewter mounts. This piece dates to circa 1850-1900. The tankard is cut in a a design of long oval panels with a border of round thumbprints and 8 pointed stars around the top and bottom. The underside has a rayed design cut in, though the center is left clear enough to look through while finishing a drink.
This piece is in excellent condition. There is a bubble visible near the center of the bottom, but it has not burst and is original to the making of the piece. There are no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs.
The tankard has a capacity of about 2 cups, or 16 fluid ounces/475 milliliters.
The tankard stands about 6 1/2 inches tall and measures about 5 inches from handle to spout, or about 3 1/ inches in diameter. -jm
