Presented is a very fine quality, Dutch silver box that was made during the mid 19th century, about 1850 to the 1860's. This lovely, completely hand crafted box is raised on 4 claw or paw feet and the lid is finely hand engraved with a pastoral or farm scene depicting a prancing/ running horse and a cow in a field. The box still has its original, full figural cast snake handle, which is quite rare. Most of these boxes are missing the original handle.
The box bears the Dutch Minerva head duty mark, a lion passant for 833 minimum silver purity and a worn maker's mark. I can find no date letter.
This piece is in excellent overall condition and the engravings are crisp. The box snaps securely shut. There are a couple of tiny dings to the underside.

Weight: 153 grams.
