Presented is a large, English sterling silver stuffing or serving spoon made by John Kerschner in London in 1816. This piece is in a classical, early 19th century form with a round-tipped handle. The front of the handle is engraved with an interesting crest of a bird standing on a stump. This piece is a good size and weight.
The back of the handle is marked with the crowned leopard’s head for London, the lion passant for sterling silver, a duty mark of King George III’s head, a date letter a for the year 1816 and a maker’s mark for John Kerschner.
This piece is in excellent overall condition for its age. There is surface wear commensurate with age and use but there are no dents, no breaks, no splits, no monogram removals and no repairs.
The spoon measures 11 3/8 inches long and weighs 97.7 grams or 3.4 ounces.
