Fantastic c1780-1850 Continental European Silver Lidded Creamer Small Pitcher
Regular price
$441.00
Presented is an excellent antique continental European silver lidded creamer. This small pitcher/creamer dates to circa 1780-1850. The pot is made in a classic lobed form, with a vertical fluted design and conforming floriform foot. The handle is an elegant double scroll form, with a foliate flourish for the thumbpiece, almost like an Onslow scroll design. The silver is quite thick throughout, and the pot has a nice feeling of weight to it despite its small size. There is a finely engraved French style monogram on one side and an interesting crest on the opposite side, that looks like two figures in oval cartouches. The pot has a capacity of about 4 fluid ounces, or 120 milliliters.
There are no stamps or hallmarks on this piece that we can find. We have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be silver of 800-900 purity.
This piece is in good overall condition. There are at least three old solder repairs around the widest point, most notably one partially obscuring the monogram, visible in the third photograph. This is by far the most noticeable one. It looks like there has been a pinpoint leak repaired with epoxy as well, but as of now the pot does not leak. Some minor dings to the widest point of the body here and there as well, but again nothing extreme.
The pot stands about 5 inches tall.
This pot weighs 110 grams or 6.5 regular ounces. -jm
