Presented is a fantastic quality antique American coin silver domed lid, dating to around the 1850s-1860s. This was likely the lid to a butter dish or similar covered dish, but unfortunately the lid is all we have, though it could easily be used on a porcelain underplate or simple round silver dish. This piece is fabulously hand chased with intricate floral and foliate decoration, with trellis-work and a scroll enclosed cartouche. The cartouche is engraved with the name 'Rankin.'
This piece is in excellent condition, with the caveat that we only have this top or lid. There are no splits, no dents, no cracks, no breaks, no monogram removals, and no repairs. This piece was likely hallmarked on the base portion which we do not have, but we have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be coin/900 purity silver.
This piece measures about 6 1/4 inches in diameter and about 3 1/2 inches tall.
This piece weighs 235 grams or 8.3 regular ounces. -jm
