Presented is a fabulous English sterling silver gilded knife with Greco-Roman high relief details. This piece has an elegant thick sterling blade. The blade displays the front and back of the same woman with a pebbled finish as background. She holds a ewer in one hand and a wine glass with the other. Another woman is displayed on the handle. She appears deep in thought. Here, you see the same perspective of the women on both sides of the handle. There are two cherubs above her and the face of a man below, who somewhat resembles Shakespeare.
This piece is entirely gilded sterling silver.
The piece is marked with English hallmarks: the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head for London, the duty mark of Queen Victoria, and a date letter "S" representing 1873. The blade and handle have identical marks. The blade is also marked with a maker's mark, GA, for George Adams.
This piece is in excellent condition. The pattern details are crisp, especially considering age and material. There is minimal wear to the gold wash, mostly just on the high points. The blade and the handle have a small gap between them but the piece is fully secure and not at risk of coming apart. There are no monograms, no monogram removals, no breaks, and no repairs.
Measurements: 8 5/8 inches
Weight: 76.7 grams or 2.7 ounces
