Presented is a fabulous antique 12 karat multi tone gold and seed pearl slide watch chain. This piece dates to around the 1870s-1880s, but we aren't sure where it was made. The chain is very finely constructed from little leaf shaped hollow links in alternating colors and textures of gold-- high finish rose gold and yellow gold with an eyecatching texture. The slider is done in a beautifully hand engraved flower form, set with a halo of pearls surrounding a vibrant green stone, which we think is likely synthetic.
From the side hang tassels of rose and yellow gold for a nice element of motion. The end of the chain has an old lobster claw style clasp. The quality of the craftsmanship and the attention to detail in this piece's making are exceptional. This piece is in excellent condition. The pearls are all intact. The cork inside the slider is in good shape. The chain has no kinks or noticeably crushed links. No breaks and no repairs. This piece is hallmarked on the clasp and on the slider with a maker's mark or other mark of an “S.” The first link of the chain (attached to the clasp) and the loop of one of the tassels have a hallmark of W12. We have tested all part with nitric acid and guarantee it to be at least 12 karat gold. The total length is about 29 ½ inches. The slide is about 7/8 of an inch in diameter. This necklace weighs 27.5 grams or .97 of an ounce.
