Fabulous Antique Mt Vernon Sterling Silver Acid Etched Heavy Compote

Presented is a handsome sterling silver compote made by Mount Vernon Company Silversmiths for retail by Brand Chatillon Company of New York City. The compote is very nicely done with beautiful acid etched decoration on the base and the rim featuring swags of flowers, scrolls and leaves. The edge of the compote is engraved with JEB in a fancy script.
This piece was made in the first quarter of the 1900s. Mt. Vernon Silversmiths were acquired by Gorham in 1923 and Gorham stopped using their hallmark almost immediately. The underside is marked with a maker’s mark for Mount Vernon Company Silversmiths, Sterling, and Brand Chatillon for the retailer.
The condition is excellent. There are no dents, no splits, no breaks, and no repairs.
The compote measures 9 inches in diameter and 3 5/8 inches tall.
The weight is 733.4 grams or 25.7 ounces. A very solid piece.
