Presented is a fabulous set of 8 Durgin sterling silver butter knives or cheese spreaders. These knives are made in the elegant New Vintage pattern, which began production in 1904. This is a lovely pattern featuring a cluster of grapes with grape leaves on the handles, surrounded by classical shell and scrollwork decoration. The grape motif is double-stamped, meaning the decoration is the same on both sides of the handles. The blades of the knives are sterling silver, all one piece with the handles. Each knife has a monogram of D on the handle in Gothic script.
This set is in great condition. The details of the pattern are nice and crisp. There are no splits, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
Each knife is stamped with the Durgin maker's mark as well as sterling.
Each knife is about 5 1/2 inches long.
The total weight for the set is 261 grams or 9.2 regular ounces. -jm
