Presented is a fantastic antique American sterling silver dresser box or small jewelry box, made by William Kerr and dating to circa 1895-1910. The box is fabulously hand chased with ornate Art Nouveau decoration in the form of dragons, foliate scrollwork, North Wind/Green Man masks and nude nymphs. The quality of the decoration is exceptional, very richly detailed and eye-catching. The box stands on four classical dolphin form feet, and has a hinged lid with a gold wash to the interior. The interior of the box itself is lined in red velvet, though this could easily be removed/redone.

This piece is in excellent overall condition. There is a scratch/dent to the underside, just to the right of the maker's mark, and a shallow ding beneath that, both of which you can see in the ninth photo. These are quite minor since they are not visible without turning the piece over. The decoration of the sides and lid is the real star of the piece, and all of this chased work is exceptionally crisp and clean. The red velvet lining is in good shape, though it has some signs of age. There are no splits, no other dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.

The underside is stamped with the maker's mark for Kerr as well as sterling and a product or other number of 668.

The box measures about 5 1/4 inches in diameter and stands about 4 inches tall.

This piece weighs 354 grams or 12.5 regular ounces. -jm
