Presented is a fabulous pair of antique American coin silver sugar nips or sugar tongs. These tongs date to circa 1800-1825, and are made in a simple, classic form. The back/hinge has a monogram of EC in elegant script.
These tongs are not stamped or hallmarked, but we have tested them with nitric acid and guarantee them to be 900 (coin) purity silver.
This piece is in great overall condition, particularly considering age. There is a slight stress line to the “back” or hinge area of the tongs, but they still feel sound enough for use. There are no splits, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
These tongs measure about 6 1/4 inches long.
The tongs weigh 37.7 grams, or 1.3 regular ounces. -jm
