Presented is an excellent American Brilliant period cut glass/crystal serving tray, dating to the late 1800s or early 1900s. The tray is an unusual form, square with cut corners (so an octagon, really) and a shallow rim. The tray is beautifully decorated with classic hobstars, fans, and panels of strawberry cut work, all very well done. The glass is thick and quite heavy. This piece is unsigned but the quality suggests a high end maker like Hawkes, Tuthill, Dorflinger, or the like. Very striking as well as useable piece, great for a dresser tray or for a variety of serving purposes, or simply for display.
This piece is in excellent overall condition. There are a couple of fleabites here and there, mainly to the verticals of the rim, and one tiny chip that I can find only with close, careful inspection. The underside has some shelf wear. No serious chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs.
This piece measures about 10 1/4 inches square and stands about 1 3/8 inches tall at the rim. The useable interior surface is about 8 1/2 inches square. -jm
