Presented is a lovely antique hand-painted porcelain and brass trinket box made sometime between 1900 and 1925, most likely by Limoges of France. The box has a round shape and is white with painted decoration. The top has a circle of delicately textured pink, purple and yellow roses with green leaves contrasted against a black background surrounded with fine rings of green. The sides are painted with bands of black and below is a decorative row of green, filigree-like forms. Top and bottom rims of the box opening, as well as the hinge and clasp are all made of brass. The clasp is formed as an 'S'-curled ribbon with textured details on one side.
There are no stamps or hallmarks visible on the piece.
The condition of the porcelain and painted details is quite good. Some of the green detail near the bottom of the piece has worn, but the top is flawless and bright. The brass has areas of tarnish and the porcelain top moves slightly when pulled, but does not come apart. The hinge and closure work perfectly. There is no other damage and there are no repairs.
Height: About 1 1/4 inches
Width: About 2 1/4 inches tm
