Presented is an antique, Victorian 14 karat gold, onyx and pearl mourning brooch or pin. This piece was made between 1840 and 1870. Mourning jewelry was popular during the 19th century to commemorate the dead, usually made with onyx and often even containing locks of hair. The center is securely set with a large onyx piece and the center has an applied gold flower set with 7 natural seed pearls. There are decorations on either end of the pin. The back still has its original C style clasp.
This piece has been tested with nitric acid and is guaranteed to be 14 karat gold purity.
This piece is in fabulous overall condition for its age. There are no damages and no repairs.
The pin measures 1 7/8 inches wide and weighs 12.2 grams.
