Presented is a charming antique German lidded beer stein, dating to the mid 1800s. This stein is white glazed faience pottery, with a colorful scene on the front of a stag leaping over a fence, with birds in the sky and yellow and pink flowers in the grass underfoot, all done in a charmingly stylized yet distinct style. The lid and foot rim are pewter. This stein has a capacity of a half a liter (500 milliliters/16.9 fluid ounces).
This piece is in excellent condition. There are no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs. The underside of the stein is signed with an incised mark, maybe a letter O or Q.
The top of the lid is stamped with a hallmark or maker's mark we unfortunately do not recognize.
The stein stands about 7 1/2 inches to the top of the lid and measures about 4 1/2 inches in diameter at the base, or about 5 3/4 inches from the handle to the front. -jm
