Charming c1900 German 800 Silver Art Nouveau Flower Tea Strainer Ladle Horovitz
Regular price
$105.00
Presented is an excellent quality antique German 800 silver small pierced serving ladle or tea strainer. This piece dates to circa 1890-1910, and was made by Felix Horovitz. The bowl of the ladle is made in a beautiful flower form, with decorative pierced work around the sides and in the center and little inward flares to the tips of the petals, adding to the realism. The bowl has a gold wash, inside and out, so it could be used for a variety of serving purposes without risking pitting—great as a tea strainer or for serving berries in juice, etc. The overall look is very Art Nouveau, typical of the time to which it dates, with organic themes and flowing, sinuous lines.
This piece is in excellent condition. The gold wash is in great shape, and the details of the design on the handle are nice and crisp. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The stem is stamped with the German crescent moon and crown, 800 for the purity of the silver, and a maker's mark for Felix Horovitz.
This piece measures about 5 5/8 inches long.
The strainer weighs 27 grams. -jm
