Presented is a charming antique Staffordshire figural milk pitcher or jug, dating to circa 1795-1820. The jug has a grinning, bearded face opposite the handle, surrounded by colorful juggling balls in pink, red, green, and yellow. I have seen this character on jugs called a jester, a juggler, or even a satyr, you be the judge of what he's up to.

The underside of the jug has two old paper labels, one reading “Staff 1790” likely used by an antique shop. Really a striking piece.

This piece is in great overall condition, particularly considering age and material. There is a small flake to the glaze to one side of the spout, visible in the fourth photograph. There is some crazing, as is pretty typical of Staffordshire pieces, and some wear, most noticeable to some of the balls and the tip of the nose. No cracks, no breaks and no repairs.

This piece stands about 6 inches tall and measures about 7 inches from handle to spout, or about 4 5/8 inches wide. -jm
