Charming Antique Meissen Figurine of Ice Skating Putti Cherub Allegory of Winter
Regular price
$386.00
Presented is a very charming 19th century Meissen porcelain figurine of an ice skating putto or cherub, an allegorical figure representing winter. The figurine is exceptionally detailed and well executed, down to the boy's delicately rendered curly hair and the impressive feeling of weight and motion given to the rich fur-lined mauve cloak the figure wears. The figurine is wonderfully hand painted to depict the cherub's chill-rosy skin and the fur texture of the cloak's interior. The quality of the work and the level of detail are superb.
The underside is signed with the Meissen crossed swords mark in underglaze blue, as well as an incised number A71, impressed number115, and a smaller black number 34.
This piece is in excellent overall condition, particularly for the age and material. There is a minor loss to the tip of one of the figure's ice skates, the one pointing forward. There is likely a minor touchup/repair to the outstretched edge of the cape, but this is incredibly hard to distinguish. One tiny flake to the foot rim. Otherwise there are no issues that I can see.
The figurine stands about 5 1/8 inches tall and measures about 2 1/2 inches wide.
