Presented is a lovely 14 karat gold and coral pin or brooch. This is an American Victorian piece, dating to the 1840s-1860s. The pin is done as a cluster of berries and fruit, beautifully carved from peachy-orange coral, topped by two golden leaves and a stem. The leaves are finely textured with a sort of granulated finish, with bright finish 'veins.' The pin has an old C style clasp.
The pin is in great overall condition. The clasp, though still quite old, appears to be a replacement. The coral pieces are securely post drilled and glued in place. The coral has no chips, no cracks, and no losses.
The pin is not stamped or hallmarked, but we have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be 14 karat gold.
The pin measures about 1 1/4 by 1 inch.
This piece weighs 4.5 grams.
