Presented is an excellent American Brilliant Period cut glass and sterling silver compote, made by Hawkes. The bowl is beautifully cut with a lattice design and scalloped edge, and is mounted on a sterling silver pedestal. This piece is a charming and quite useable size, great as a candy dish or for holding a few smaller fruit, or perhaps a large single serving of sherbet, if that is more your style, though of course it is beautiful enough to display all on its own.
This piece is signed Hawkes on the underside as well as sterling and the weight of the silver, 28 pennyweights (43.5 grams/1.5 ounces).
This piece is in excellent condition. The glass has no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs. The silver has no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The compote stands about 4 3/8 inches at the rim and measures about 5 1/2 inches in diameter. -jm
