Charming 1916 Antique Dutch 833 Silver Sailing Ship Boat Sifter Spoon 5.5"
Regular price
$180.00
Presented is a charming little antique Dutch silver souvenir spoon, dated 1916. The bowl of the spoon is beautifully chased and decorated with a detailed scene of a ship on the water, surrounded by floral and foliate scrollwork and beneath a pierced openwork floral spray. The spoon has a wavy stem with a full three dimensional figural terminal in the form of a three sail sailing ship topped by waving flags, nicely detailed and well cast.
The bowl of the spoon is stamped with the Dutch second standard hallmark of a lion passant guaranteeing at least 833 purity silver, as well as Holland, on one side of the bowl. The other side has a maker's mark of VS or JS with other likely proprietary marks nearby. The stem is stamped with the date letter G for 1916, and the rearmost mast of the ship finial is stamped with the Minerva head duty mark.
This piece is in excellent condition. The details of the designs are nice and crisp. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
This piece measures about 5 1/2 inches long.
The spoon weighs 33.1 grams. -jm
