Presented is a fine set of antique/vintage Mason's Ironstone china tea cups and saucers, dating to circa 1900-1940. The set consists of 8 cups and 11 saucers, and the saucers are a little higher sided than modern saucers tend to be, in the older 'tea bowl' style. These cups and saucers are made in the highly sought after Flying Bird pattern, which is a vibrant and colorful Chinoiserie pattern depicting a long tailed bird in flight surrounded by stunning flowers and foliage. The palette is a very eye-catching array of blues, greens, orange, and pink shades, with fine gold gilt detailing. This pattern was originally made by Davenport starting circa 1815, but would go on to be made by Mason's Ironstone and other high end English companies as well. We have many additional pieces in this pattern from the same estate including some particularly rare examples, which you can find by searching “Flying Bird” in our store.

This set is in great overall condition. All of the saucers have some crazing to the glaze, as we've already seen in many other Mason's Flying Bird lots/pieces from this time, but this is minor. Of the cups, one has very noticeable crazing and discoloration, one has moderate crazing, and one has minor crazing, while the remaining five have very minor crazing. The fifth and sixth photos show examples of this. All the pieces are usable. There are no chips, cracks, breaks, or repairs.

Each piece is stamped on the underside with the mark for Mason's Patent Ironstone China, England.

Each cup stands about 2 1/4 inches at the rim and measures about 3 3/8 inches in diameter.
Each saucer measures about 5 3/8 inches in diameter. -jm
