c1910s-1920s Antique 14k Yellow Gold Platinum Jade Butterfly Pin Brooch
Presented is a lovely antique 14 karat gold, platinum and jade pin or brooch. This piece dates to around the 1910s-1920s, and is likely of American make, though the jade is likely Chinese. The pin is made in an interesting design, with a long cylinder of stately green jade in an open platinum setting, with yellow gold end caps and clasp. The platinum is beautifully done in the form of finely detailed butterflies on either end of the pin, with the sides of the end caps having further decoration in the form of a closed-wing butterfly and a little foliate design. The jade has nice translucence, with some visible mottling and speckling particularly noticeable when it is held to the light. The clasp is a lever catch style, which is quite secure.
This piece is stamped and guaranteed 14k on the clasp. We have tested the white metal with nitric acid and guarantee it to be platinum. This piece is in great overall condition. There is an old solder repair where the platinum wire meets the end cap on one side, but this is very hard to notice without close inspection, particularly if the pin is being worn. The stone is in great shape, well set with no chips or damages. The clasp works well and closes securely. The pin measures about 2 inches long. This pin weighs 8.0 grams.
