c1900 Carrington 14k Gold Platinum Diamond & Black Enamel Makeup Compact

Presented is a beautiful 14 karat gold, platinum, diamond and enamel makeup compact. This piece dates to around the 1920s and was made by Carrington & Co. The compact is done in the classy Art Deco style of the time. The compact is covered in rich black enamel, with an applied floral design on the front, in milgrain finish platinum and diamonds. The button that opens the compact, as well as the buttons that open the two compartments, are also platinum, set with sparkling diamonds. Contrasting beautifully with the black enamel is a smooth white enamel design around the edge. The compact has an attached short chain, which is also decorated with black and white enamel. The interior of the compact has a mirror and two compartments, for powder and blush or whatever else you'd like to keep on hand.

The compact is in great overall condition. There are three chips to the black enamel on the back of the case, which are visible in the final photograph. As you can see, only one of these is really noticeable at a glance. The compact snaps shut nicely. The mirror is in good shape, with no chips, no cracks, and no repairs.

The compact is stamped with the Carrington & Co 14k maker's mark, 14 inside a C, on the interior near the hinge. We have tested the compact with nitric acid and guarantee it to be 14 karat gold, except for the white metal of the buttons and the decorations on the front, which are tested and guaranteed platinum.

The compact itself measures about 2 7/8 by 1 3/4 inches.

This piece weighs 112 grams or 4.0 regular ounces.
