Presented is a wonderful old antique American sterling silver salver or card tray. This tray was made by Jacobi & Jenkins, a well known Baltimore company, and dates to circa 1894-1908, at which point they were succeeded by Jenkins & Jenkins. This round tray is made in a very highly decorated repousse design, featuring richly detailed hand chased floral decoration around the rim. The center surface area of the tray has a finely engraved texture, surrounding a cartouche with a monogram of EMJ in flowing, interwoven script. The tray stands on four fanciful ball and claw form feet, which are quite detailed and realistic.
This piece is stamped with the maker's mark for Jacobi & Jenkins, as well as sterling.
This piece is in excellent overall condition. There are a couple minor dings to the upper surface, which are hard to notice due to the finish of the silver. The silver has no splits, no serious dents, no monogram removals, no breaks, and no repairs.
The tray measures about 11 inches in diameter and stands about 1 1/8 inches tall at the rim. This piece weighs 700 grams or 24.7 regular ounces. -jm
