Presented is a lovely Chinese rose medallion covered vegetable or serving dish. This piece dates to around the 1860s-1880s. The dish is done in a classic notched corner rectangular form, with a matching lid. The quality of the decoration is better than is generally seen, showing typical genre scenes and colorful designs of birds, butterflies, and flowers in superb detail. The rim of the dish, the finial, and some details of the painting are eye-catchingly gilded. The decorations cover the top of the lid as well as the interior of the dish, with a simpler floral design appearing on all four sides. This is a good, large size dish, easily able to serve a large amount of whatever you like.
The dish is in great condition. Both the lid and the dish itself ring like a bell when tapped. There are no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs.
