Presented is an elegant Victorian 10 karat gold cameo pin or brooch. This piece dates to around the 1870s, and was likely carved in Italy and mounted in gold in America. The pin features a lovely carved cameo showing a pretty young woman in profile, with her hair done up. The carving is very well done, with fabulous attention to the details of her curly hair and the realistic folds of her clothes. The gold frame surrounding the cameo is done in an attractive openwork design, with applied leaves in multi colored gold. The leaves are finely engraved and textured, with great attention to detail. The pin has an old C style clasp. The bottom of the pin has a loop where a dangle or pendant can be attached.
The pin is in great overall condition. The cameo has a minor line on the lefthand side, but is still structurally sound and in no danger of loss. The applied leaves are all intact, and their texture and engraving is nice and crisp. There are no breaks and no repairs to the gold.
The pin is not stamped or hallmarked, but we have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be 10 karat gold.
The pin is about 2 3/8 inches long.
This piece weighs 9.0 grams.
