Presented is a fine 19th century porcelain box with gilt bronze mounts. The box is of wonderful baroque Bombay form in the style of Louis XIV. The four sides of the box have hand painted floral panels within gilded reserves. The top of the box features a raised panel with a scene of lovers, dressed in 18th century style, within a landscape. A hinged, gilt bronze frame secures the top and bottom sections.
The bottom of the box has a hand drawn under glaze blue crossed swords mark with the letter S beneath it. We have been told that the maker is the SAMSON factory of the RUE BERANGER, PARIS, date 1860-1880.
Marks: Under glaze blue crossed swords, the letter S.
Dimensions: 7" wide x 4" high x 4 ¼" deep. This is a larger than average porcelain box.
Condition: This box is in excellent, superb condition. There is some minor wear to the gilding around the central top cartouche, otherwise virtually all painting and gilding is intact. There are no cracks, no chips, no crazing, no repairs and no problems of any kind.
Weight: 1 lb 7.4 oz (665 grams)
