Presented is a fine quality 14 kt. gold Italian Victorian pietra dura pin. This piece was made in Italy in the 1850s to the 1870s. It is classic Italian pietra dura work with a fine quality 14 kt. gold frame. The bird is designed using several different types of stones. I can identify lapis lazuli, malachite and two types of banded agate or marble. I do not know what material is used for the light green leaves and red berries and feathers.
There is one minor flake to the red feathers. Otherwise condition is very good. The surface has some wear and there is a light white discoloration near the top. This is minor and, I believe, could easily be cleaned up. The hinge, the clasp and the pin back are all original and in perfect condition. The back of this pin has an orange colored stone and not the black onyx or marble seen on the front. The gold is not stamped but this piece has been tested with nitric acid and is guaranteed to be 14 kt. gold.
